YOUR WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: RIHANNA CALLS #1 HOME

Animated Flick Rules at Multiplexes, Followed by Get Hard

Moviegoers have her money. In addition to two songs in the iTunes Top 5 (one of them #1 until shortly ago), Rihanna has the #1 new movie in the land. The animated romp Home, which stars the megstar siren (or at least her voice), tops this weekend’s box office, followed by the Will Ferrell-Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard. Meanwhile, indie horror outing It Follows buzzes louder as it enters wide release.

  3. Insurgent (Lionsgate) $22m (-58%) 3,875/$5,697 (week 2)
  4. Cinderella (Disney) $17.5m (-50%) 3,815/$4,591 (week 3)
  5. It Follows (Radius-TWC) $4m (+1,066%) +1,186/$3,301 (week 3)

No other debuts made much noise, though the Oscar-nominated doc The Salt of the Earth earned a healthy $11k average on just four screens.
