COUNTRY MARKETSHARE SHOWDOWN: WHO’S GOT THE BIGGEST YEE-HAUL?

Universal, Sony Rule the Row

As hordes of sales, distribution and digital-service folk descend on Nashville for Music Biz 2015, we reckoned it’d be right neighborly to show you who Music Row’s biggest marketshare ballers are.

When it comes to the Country market, the field is dominated by Universal—the biggest contributors being Mike Dungan’s Universal Nashville (29.2), Monte Lipman’s Republic (15.2) and Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group (12.5) and Valory (2.8).

Sony Nashville, the top post of which is currently open, plus Bob Morelli’s RED make up most of Sony Music’s place position. Sony Nashville accounts for about 16 of the Sony total, while RED (fueled by Broken Bow Music Group, BRE and 30 Tigers) grabs 11.3. The three major groups account for more than 90% of the market.

Here's the tally:

UMG 51.1

SONY 29.2

WMG 10.6

In other Music Biz news, about 70 folks have already signed up for the confab's Third Annual Metadata Summit. It’s gonna be more excitin’ than a tractor pull in a thunderstorm, or however that expression goes.
