The U.K. music industry was out in force Monday evening for a right old knees-up at her Majesty's Houses of Parliament to save Auntie's music offering. Have you heard enough peculiar British terms yet? Don't worry, we'll be using as many as we can throughout this text.
Tea and crumpets were on the menu, alongside some nice port and cheese for afters.
Among the ruddy-faced revelers were the power quartet of Sam Smith, joint Capitol heads Jo Charrington and Nick Raphael, and Smith's manager, Jack Street of Method Music. We took a picture of them on our iPhone; can you tell?
Others in attendance included a pair of staunch rivals in Warner U.K. boss Max Lousada and Island king Darcus Beese, you can see them here discussing the quality of the cake.
Virgin EMI star Jake Bugg played a set too, before praising the Beeb for taking him from unsigned act to Glasto headliner.
The whole thing was held to support BBC Music during Charter renewal. Which will result in cuts to the Beeb, risking fewer promo opportunities for the music industry via radio and telly, something the music biz is not happy about. Despite the smiling faces pictured here.
