SAY BYE-BYE TO BEATS MUSIC

Without fanfare, Apple is shuttering Beats Music as of 11/30. And you thought it went away months ago, didn’t you? The move was apparently made in conjunction with the launch of Apple Music on Android, which took place earlier this week, thus eliminating the sole remaining reason to keep Beats alive.

“Beats Music ends on November 30,” reads a pitch—or “support document”—posted on the Beats Music site. “Your subscription will be cancelled, but you can move your picks and preferences over to Apple Music right now.

“All the pros that curated music for you are still crafting more amazing experiences. Plus, on Apple Music, you’ll get even better recommendations based on music you already listen to and love, 24/7 global radio with Beats 1, exciting material from your favorite artist, and more.”

Beats Music stopped accepting new subscribers back in June when Apple Music launched on iOS, 9 to 5 Mac notes in its coverage. That’s when the Beats Music iOS app was updated to support easy migration to Apple Music.

As a side note, the copy lacks Apple’s usual precision; the preferred spelling is “canceled,” while “the pros who…” is the proper usage, and “artist” obviously should’ve been made plural. They must’ve assigned this chore to some intern, which indicates how far down the priority list it was.
