WHOSE SONG IS IT ANYWAY? CITRUS-INFUSED EDITION

Now that we have Beyoncé’s new Lemonade set (Columbia), let’s take a look at the writers and producers behind a handful of tracks. The graphic below includes “Formation,” “Hold Up,” “Sorry” and “Freedom,” all of which are currently Top 5 at iTunes.

The Caribbean-infused “Hold Up” samples Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps,” Soulja Boy’s “Turn My Swag On” and Andy Williams’ 1963 gem “Can’t Get Used to Losing You” (picture Bey swinging a bat as the playful pizzicato intro plays). “Freedom” samples '60s band Kaleidoscope's “Let Me Try." “Freedom” also features field recordings from renowned folklorist Alan Lomax.

And if you’re wondering who MeLo-X is, he reportedly caught Bey’s ear with the EP Yoncé-X, featuring remixes of tracks from Queen Bey’s self-titled “sneak attack” set. She then invited him to contribute music the Jay ‘n’ Bey 2014 On the Run Tour; the rest, as they say, is history.
