RADIOHEAD CLOSES WINDOW, HITS THE SPOT

Spotify has announced that Radiohead's chart-topping set A Moon Shaped Pool will be available on the service beginning on 6/17. The news comes a full month after the album premiered behind the Apple Music and Tidal paywalls, and coincides with Pool's physical release.

Radiohead and team have been outspoken in their criticism of free streaming, and Spotify’s “freemium” tier has received much of that ire. Word continues to spread that the company—which announced the hiring of respected manager/entrepreneur Troy Carter as Global Head of Creative Services earlier this week—is weighing various changes to allow windowing on its service and otherwise blunt the negative impact of the free tier on rights holders.

A Moon Shaped Pool bowed at #1 on the HITS Album Sales Chart with 175k in digital downloads alone.
