Three debuts led the Top 5 list of highest-grossing films in America this weekend, as Warner Bros.' The Conjuring 2 bowed with $40m, and Universal's Warcraft and Lionsgate's Now You See Me 2 followed with around $24m and $23m, respectively.
The list-topping horror flick nearly matched its predecessor's opening weekend number of $42m—a particularly rare feat for a sequel. The Conjuring 2 also earned a 75% from Rotten Tomatoes, while Warcraft and Now You See Me 2 both earned scores below 40%.
It's worth noting that although Warcraft was an arguable flop in the States (considering its $160m budget), it did, however, earn a whopping $156m or so from Chinese audiences in just five days.
