THE SHAWNING OF A NEW ERA

Island's Shawn Mendes, pictured here with the label's David Massey and Eric Wong and manager Andrew Gertler, is being prominently considered for a Best New Artist nod as Grammy ballots come due at week's end.

The 18-year-old Mendes, recently ranked #1 on Spotify's 25 Under 25 list, scored a #1 bow on our SPS and Album Sales charts in September with his sophomore set, Illuminate, fueled by the Pop radio hit "Treat You Better." Check out our 9/27 cover story for more details. New single "Mercy," meanwhile, is the third-biggest gainer at Shazam this week, trailing only the new Drake tracks.

Team Island is understandably psyched about what lies ahead for the teen troubadour, who is also easy on the eyes, as the pictures below (two from L'Uomo Vogue, one with labelmate Nick Jonas and one from his signing celebration) further attest. Even though it's Halloween, we won't include any pics of us.
