LITTLE MIX GOES LATIN

SYCO/Columbia's Little Mix, whose album Glory Days spent five consecutive weeks atop the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart this winter, have teamed up with Latin boy band CNCO. Considering the success of Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee f/Justin Bieber's "Despacito"—as well as J. Balvin f/Willy William's "Mi Gente," currently spinning at Top 40 radio—could a smash be in store?

The all-female four-piece has apparently remixed CNCO's "Reggaeton Lento," which has already hit the Top 5 in territories that include Argentina, Chile, Guatemala and Paraguay, while also peaking at #2 in Spain. Also, the video for "Reggaeton Lento" already boasts north of 1b YouTube views—that's more than the "Mi Gente" clip, which is at 410m+. Little Mix's Spanglish version will be released on Friday.


For comparison's sake, it's worth noting that "Mi Gente" is an unaltered, original song that gained traction Stateside, following the "Despacito" craze. "Despacito" was already a certified hit in Spanish-speaking countries before Bieber remixed it, adding English verses. The rest is of course history, but to be clear: "Despacito (Remix)" is now the most-streamed song of all time that's been #1 on the singles chart for 14 straight weeks. The audio video alone has close to 500m YouTube views, and the original song's official video just broke the record for the most YouTube views ever with a cool 3b.

At press time, "Despacito (Remix)" is #2 at iTunes overall, "Despacito" is #8 and "Mi Gente" is #22.
