Spotify has acquired the Stockholm-based recording/production site Soundtrap.
Founded in 2013 by Per Emanuelsson, Björn Melinder, Gabriel Sjöberg and Fredrik Posse, Soundtrap is a web-based, collaborative music recording and production studio similar to Apple’s Garageband. Last year it raised $6m from investors such as former Spotify CFO Peter Sterky and Swedish producer/songwriter Andreas Carlsson.
The Soundtrap team of engineers, designers and music producers have built tools for consumers, educators, and students. The Soundtrap service will continue to operate as usual.
In a blog post, Spotify said Soundtrap’s “growing business is highly aligned with Spotify's vision of democratizing the music ecosystem. Starting today, Soundtrap joins a team at Spotify that is dedicated to helping millions of artists connect with millions of fans, and helping fans discover their favorite new artists.”
