WMG'S AFRICAN BOOM

Warner Music’s catalog is heading to Africa. The continent’s largest music streaming and download service, Boomplay, has signed a direct licensing agreement with WMG to bring its music to 10 countries.

Boomplay will WMG songs in Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

“Major deals with internationally recognized partners such as Warner Music continue to push us closer to our aim of building the largest and the most reliable online music distribution platform in Africa,” Boomplay CEO Joe He said. “We want every music lover in the region to be able to access any song or video, anytime and wherever they are.”

Alfonso Perez-Soto, EVP, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Warner Music, added: “The streaming service already has tremendous reach across the continent, yet they continue to expand exponentially. It’s an opportunity that can’t be missed for our artists to make a whole new legion of fans.”

Boomplay has announced several deals with labels in the last year. It has more than 42m users and a catalog of 5m songs.
