ACADEMY'S TRUSTEE MEETING PROVES MASONIC

Harvey Mason, Jr. has been tapped as Chair of the Recording Academy Board of Trustees at its spring meeting. Christine Albert (best known as founder/CEO of Swan Songs) will move into the Chair Emeritus, er, chair.

The Academy is also touting the other newly elected National Officers of the Board of Trustees: Tammy Hurt (Placement Music) will serve as Vice Chair and Terry Hemmings (Provident Music Group) as Secretary/Treasurer. For an exhaustive list of Academy Trustees, go here.

Mason's career as producer/songwriter includes projects with Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Sir Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello. He's also worked on an array of film and TV offerings. His philanthropic track record includes support of Grammy in the Schools, MusiCares, American Cancer Society and Los Angeles Children's Hospital; he received the T.J. Martell Foundation's Spirit of Excellence Award in 2012.

Hurt, Hemmings and Albert, it need hardly be added, also have big philanthropic bona fides.

"Following the outcome of our annual spring Board of Trustees meeting, it's clear the Recording Academy's governance continues to demonstrate its commitment to keeping the Academy a relevant and responsive organization," said Academy boss Neil Portnow, whose reign ends on 7/31, when Deborah Dugan will take the wheel.
