MUSIC LOVERS DIGGING INTO PRINE DISCOGRAPHY

John Prine’s songs, unvarnished slices of life poetic in their simplicity, weren’t for everyone, but those listeners with whom he connected made him a cult artist of the highest order. The beloved artist released 25 albums and an EP during the course of his 47-year recording career, as he quietly but consistently sold 3.8 million albums over the decades.

Prine’s sales picked up in late March when it was reported that he’d been hospitalized with the coronavirus, and they increased dramatically following his death last Tuesday (4/7). Thus, during the week ending last Thursday (4/9), 19 of his titles sold north of 1k units, for a collective tally of 107k in total activity, +351% vs. the previous week, as fans filled the holes in their collections and newbies dived into his rich oeuvre.
