SPOTIFY WILL ALLOW ARTIST INPUT ON PERSONALIZED RECS

Spotify has announced it will test allowing artist input to affect users' personalized recommendations, experimenting with adding artist and label priorities to the algorithm in Discovery modes.

Artists and labels will be able to identify music that’s a priority for them, and our system will add that signal to the algorithm that determines personalized listening sessions," the company explained in a statement. "This will allow our algorithms to account for what’s important to the artist—perhaps a song they’re particularly excited about, an album anniversary they’re celebrating, a viral cultural moment they’re experiencing or something else they care about."

Spotify will begin this process focusing on its Radio and Autoplay formats, which are driven by music discovery.

Its Personalized Recommendation algorithm already considers many factors, including time of day, the order in which songs are listened to and the life of a song. Adding artist input will offer creators more information about how fans are connecting to important songs.
