THE BIRTH OF "GIVE PEACE A CHANCE"

A week before their 1969 Bed-In for Peace, John Lennon and Yoko Ono rehearsed “Give Peace a Chance” at the Sheraton Oceanus Hotel in the Bahamas. The video makes its debut today.

Captured by cameraman Nic Knowland and sound recordist Mike Lax, it is the earliest known recording of the song. Released by the John Lennon Estate, the film features Lennon ad-libbing lyrics for the verses while seated on a couch next to his wife. Due to heat and the hotel layout, the duo left for Canada to stage their second Bed-In in Montreal on 5/31.

To promote the 4/23 release of the 50th anniversary edition of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (Capitol/UMe), a Tim’s Twitter Listening Party will be held 4/24 at 10am PT/1pm ET with Ono, Sean Ono Lennon, Klaus Voormann and others. Following the Listening Party will be a Twitter Spaces afterparty featuring a discussion hosted by Chris Hawkins of BBC Radio 6 Music and featuring Sean Ono Lennon, Voormann, Dan Richter, Paul Hicks, Tim Burgess, Plastic Ono Band Ultimate Collection Compilation Producer/Production Manager Simon Hilton and others.
