EILISH COVERS LOS ANGELES MAG

Billie Eilish graces the cover of the latest issue of Los Angeles Magazine. The Darkroom/Interscope star, whose Barbie smash, "What Was I Made For?," has been streamed more than 462m times on Spotify alone this year, discusses a bevy of topics in the cover story, including her songs, her take on awards and her new vegan restaurant in Silver Lake.

Eilish addresses why "What Was I Made For?" is so important to her, noting: "All the things that were happening after the song came out, all the TikToks with the song in the background and the stories about people and their siblings and their sisters and their moms and girl relationships, it was so much about how traumatic the female experience is. That song brought the girls together, even though some of it was trauma-bonding. I feel really proud I connected people."

She says of the Oscar buzz surrounding "What Was I Made For?," "Listen, I love awards. I’ve got no problem winning awards. It’s just that … I don’t do it for awards."

As for the aforementioned eatery, Argento, which she's launching in partnership with restaurateur Nic Adler and her brother/songwriting partner, FINNEAS, it's slated to begin serving the tragically hip L.A. neighborhood in January.

"I want plant-based food to be more accessible," she explains. "What’s really cool about Argento—and Nic’s on Beverly and Crossroads and Donut Friend—is they are all vegan places, but they’re not branded as 'vegan.' Vegan is for everyone. You don’t have to be vegan to eat vegan. The world is so much better than it was. Ten years ago there was nothing vegan anywhere, and now it’s so much more universal."

Eilish is currently working on her third album, the follow-up to 2021's Grammy-nominated Happier Than Ever. While we're waiting for that to rain down on us in all its emo glory, read the full Los Angeles interview here. We imagine the mag's newly anointed editor-in-chief, Shirley Halperin, is busy whipping up some carrot lox and kale chips in Eilish's honor.
